Some of you may think I'm a "bad" mom after this post, but really I'm just telling it like it is. After ready MANY blogs out there I have come to a conclusion: a lot of it is B.S. You can't tell me a mom of 3+ kids can home school them, do tedious and time consuming craft projects with them on a daily basis, make sure they eat a well balanced organic diet, go on "nature" walks, grow their own vegetables, slaughter their own cows (okay I'm exaggerating on that one), keep their houses spic-n-span, and have a beautiful dinner ready for their husbands when they get home. I just don't buy it, I have 3 kids under 3 1/2. I know how it really is.
I'm certainly not one of those organic-type moms. We use disposable diapers in this house because let's face it, I deal with poop enough as it is--there's no need for me to scrape it out of I cloth diaper if I don't have to. My kids eat candy, and processed meat and cheese, they had sugar well before their first birthdays. Breakfast in my house is either a frozen eggo, cereal, or a bag dry cereal and a sippy cup of milk.
For lunch we have our usuals: grilled cheese, pb&j, raviolis (canned of course), frozen chicken nuggets, a happy meal from McDonald's, or left overs from last nights dinner. Bananas and canned mandarin oranges are our usual fruit sides. I hardly ever make dinner for the family to eat, the kids will most likely eat something from the list above and David and I will usually have some sort of frozen entree.
I don't usually come up with some awesome craft project for us to do, usually it's just coloring or making necklaces, and I almost always get frustrated with Mila for coloring on MY page or not letting me bead my necklace the way I want. Mila has a TV in her room, she watches a movie every night, not because I don't want to spend time with her, I do it to keep my sanity...because by the end of the day I'm going a little bit crazy. Yeah, I said it.
The house is usually a disaster. With three kids, our boxer, and a husband who never takes his muddy boots off before entering the house, the floor is pretty dirty. I could probably mop and vacuum every day if I wanted to (which I don't) and the floor would still be covered in crumbs, dirt, and dog hair. At any given time you will find one or two dirty diapers in various places of the house, crackers or dry cereal in the couch cushions, you will not find dirty dishes in my sink because that is my one pet peeve.
Their bedrooms are hardly ever picked up, I never have the laundry done, there is always makeup all over my sink, and my car is always cluttered with extra clothes, diet coke cans, blankets, empty baggies, and toys.
I sort of grew up the same way, well that's not entirely true, our house was always spotless but my mom did have a house keeper that came once a week, but she didn't have 37 step craft projects for us to do or cook dinner from scratch every night or take us on nature walks, we didn't have a garden, or family night, but you know what? I turned out just fine and I think my kiddos will to.
Okay...glad I got that off my chest.
Sorry if this offends anyone, I'm sure there are some moms out there who really are perfect...but I doubt it.
